A decomposed body of an unknown man has been discovered floating in a stream near Modikwa Platinum Mine in the Fetakgomo-Tubatse area.
The grim discovery was made by a cattle herder, who immediately alerted Driekop Police. Forensic services were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Clothing believed to belong to the deceased was found on the riverbank, while the body itself was floating in the water. Police also recovered pills inside the clothing, suspected to be asthma medication.
Preliminary findings indicate that the man may have drowned several days ago, as the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition. His identity and place of origin remain unknown at this stage.
Police have opened an inquest and are appealing to anyone who may be missing a family member or has information that could assist in identifying the deceased to contact Driekop Police on 071 602 0460.
