The Giyani Detectives,Mopani district conducted an intelligence-driven operation on Wednesday, 05 November 2025, in Lulekani and Phalaborwa areas to trace suspects involved in a robbery with a firearm that was committed on Sunday, 26 October 2025, along the R529 road near Mphagani village in the local policing area.
The operation yielded positive results when police arrested one of the suspects, aged 32, who was found in possession of the firearm and ammunition that had been robbed during the Giyani incident. Two additional suspects, aged 32 and 35, were also arrested on the same day during separate incidents.
The accused Martel Mabunda (32), appeared before the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 06 November 2025, on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was remanded in custody. He is expected to join his two accomplices when they appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 07 November 2025, to face an additional charge of robbery with a firearm.
Police investigations are continuing.
