The Mbombela High Court has dismissed the bail appeal of Sifiso Vusimuzi Sibanyoni (39), who is accused of the premeditated murder of his wife, Dr Nondumiso Sibanyoni (34).
Sibanyoni lodged an appeal after his initial bail application was denied by the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court on 01 August 2025.
In handing down judgment, the court considered the serious nature of the charge, its prevalence, and the significant public interest generated in the community where the incident occurred. The court found that releasing the accused on bail pending trial would likely disturb public order and undermine peace and security.
The court further held that the nature and circumstances surrounding the offence were likely to evoke shock and outrage within the community. It concluded that granting bail would undermine public confidence in the criminal justice system and the proper administration of justice.
The matter relates to the fatal shooting of Dr Nondumiso Sibanyoni on 20 November 2024 outside a gym at a shopping centre in Nelspruit.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the judgment and reiterated its commitment to the fight against gender-based violence and femicide.
The NPA remains steadfast in ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable and face the full might of the law.
