The community of Marite in Mpumalanga expressed disappointment after an empty SAB truck overturned in the area on Thursday, 12 February 2026.
The incident occurred when an empty brewery truck transporting cases of empty bottles lost control along the R40 road while attempting to avoid a pothole. The truck veered off the road and overturned in a residential yard, narrowly missing an RDP house. Fortunately, the family residing in the house escaped unharmed.
Community members rushed to the scene, some with wheelbarrows, after news spread rapidly that a truck transporting alcohol had overturned, with some hoping to receive an early Easter weekend treat. However, upon arrival, they found only broken bottles and cracked cases.
