Marius van der Merwe has now been officially identified as Witness D — the former EMPD officer who was shot and killed in Brakpan on Friday night, shortly after testifying against senior EMPD officials at the Madlanga Commission in November.
His death has raised serious concerns about the safety of witnesses and whistleblowers, especially while the commission is still under way.
