The Tzaneen Regional Court has sentenced Matome Daniel Modiba (41) to life imprisonment after convicting him of attempted murder.
The accused was involved in a romantic relationship with the victim. On the day of the incident (12 November 2023), he went to the victim’s workplace in Haenertzburg early in the morning and waited until she alighted from the taxi.
The accused was bitter because he believed the victim had left him at the tavern with another man; that’s why the following day, he waited at her workplace, armed with a firearm, and shot her as she tried to hide inside his car.
The accused pulled her down and left her at the scene. The employer was called by other workers and took the victim to hospital. She was hospitalised for three months and was unable to return to her previous duties at her workplace.
Modiba was sentenced to life imprisonment and was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
