After more than 20 years in court, Vodacom and Kenneth Makate have finally reached a confidential settlement over the “Please Call Me” invention dispute.
Both sides have withdrawn all legal actions, officially ending one of South Africa’s longest-running corporate battles.
‘Please Call Me’ inventor is expected to be compensated around R9.4 billion which is the 5% of the revenue generated off the back of his invention by Vodacom.
Vodacom says the settlement figure will appear in its interim financial results for September 2025.
