Two white perpetrators have been identified as being responsible for the vandalism of the municipality’s electrical infrastructure, particularly in Protea Park, Safarituine, and Rustenburg CBD.
The city has been subjected to a relentless onslaught of attacks on its electricity infrastructure, leaving local communities vulnerable and exposed. Recently, the city has incurred significant expenditures, totaling millions, to repair vandalized electricity infrastructure over a mere few months.
The repercussions of vandalism extend far beyond the considerable financial losses, profoundly impacting the daily lives of citizens who frequently experience electricity outages, water cuts and restrictions, disrupted transportation services, prolonged communication blackouts, and diminished access to essential public services, ultimately eroding their quality of life and sense of security.
It is imperative that we safeguard the city’s infrastructure to ensure the provision of reliable, uninterrupted services. A criminal case has been opened at the Rustenburg Police Station, and we commend the private security and local Community Policing Forum for their efforts.
