The police in Limpopo have arrested 822 suspects over the week commencing on Monday, 27 October until Sunday, 2 November 2025, through Operation Shanela 2 for various crimes such as Murder, rape, possession of unlicensed firearms, Malicious damage to property and Burglary amongst others.
The high density multi-disciplinary operations were conducted in all five districts in the province comprising of different law enforcement agencies such as Traffic Police from both Provincial and Municipalities, the Department of Home Affairs, Border Management Authority, the Community Policing Forum, and private security companies.
The actions conducted during the operation include stop and searches, roadblocks, high visibility patrols, vehicle checkpoints, and licensed liquor premises inspections.
Amongst the 822 suspects arrested, 13 were wanted suspects.
During the operation,
▶️ 16 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs,
▶️ 07 nabbed for possession of illegal cigarettes
▶️ 21 suspects arrested for rape,
▶️66 were apprehended for assault common,
▶️16 Burglary (Residential)
▶️ 67 illegal migrants
Operational highlights:
▶️ 38 unlicensed liquor premises closed,
▶️ 411 premises searched ▶️ 7675 Informal businesses were inspected, for example, spaza shops, to ensure compliance.
The following items were confiscated:
▶️ 04 firearms and 11 ammunition
▶️ 437 389 litres of alcoholic beverages
▶️ 06 dangerous weapons ▶️ 1.02 kg drugs
▶️ 0.123g of cocaine
All suspects are expected to appear before their respective courts across the province.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has welcomed the arrests and commended the members and all stakeholders who participated during the high-density operations. “These operations will be intensified to ensure the safety of residents, businesses and visitors during this heightened festive season period and beyond,” said Major General Jan Scheepers.
