Social workers of the Department of Social Development in Limpopo are providing psychosocial support to a 22-year student of the Mavhoi TVET college in Nzhelele, whose alleged ordeal of bullying by four other students went viral on social media. MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale, who noticed the cry for help on the same platform has commended social workers for reacting swiftly to the incident as the victim was making suicide threats in reaction to her ordeal. It’s also alleged that the victim was told by officers at a local police station to start a mediation process yesterday, but the alleged incident continued to happen on the second day.
“We are calling on all young people who are being bullied to speak out for an intervention. We don’t want to see our children commit suicide because their cries for help were ignored. The matter will also be referred to police management for an investigation to start in order for arrests to be effected. We are also worried about the alleged conduct of the police at the station when the matter was initially reported and that must be probed as well. The alleged police conduct has also been brought to the attention of the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Rhamakhanya.” said MEC Rakgoale.
