The Department of Social Development in Limpopo has deployed social workers to GaMamadila village outside Seshego to provide psychosocial support to the family of an 11-year old boy who was allegedly murdered by two minors.
Police say the two suspects aged 15, allegedly lured Tibane Mahanyele to the nearby Ga-Makweya village for a soccer match and he never returned home. It is alleged that the victim’s cell phone was later found with the two suspects after a case of a missing person was opened at the local police station.
MEC for Social Development Nkakareng Rakgoale has condemned in the strongest possible terms the murder of Mahanyele. Rakgoale says social workers will give all the necessary support to the family for them to cope well during this trying period.
“Our social workers who are going to visit the affected families will start debriefing sessions to all the affected parties, as well as to the minors who are already kept at the Department’s Secure Care Center which deals with minors who are in conflict with the law, to create a conducive environment for the law to take its course. It is disturbing to hear about an incident like this which involves minors. These are some of the social ills that we as a society, we need to confront head on as they have a capacity to doom the future of our children. These are children who are supposed to play and grow together so that they can be future leaders. ” said MEC Rakgoale.
