VETERAN actor Menzi Ngubane was laid to rest today at his home town in Ladysmith, Kwa Zulu Natal in a sorrowful funeral as his father also was being buried alongside him.
His best friend, Siyabonga Zungu took to the podium and shared a tribute to Menzi who died last week Saturday at his home after suffering from stroke, ” You were not a friend, colleague or celebrity but my brother. You were an MC at my wedding and you told people that you and I were like a couple that would be separated only by death. But today I say not even death can separate us,” he said
Zungu said that Menzi taught him to love, forgive and start over but now he is starting over without him.
“Today I get to start over without you. I promise that your family will always be welcome at my home. Go well, my friend, till we meet again.”
The funeral was hosted by a radio veteran Linda Sbiya and was attended by Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa. Thina Zungu performed a gospel item.
Minister Mthethwa described Menzi as someone who inspired so many with his relentless pursuit of excellence as an actor, father and exceptional South African. Minister added that Menzi left an everlasting impact on every role he played.
He died at the age of 56, leaving behind his wife Sikelelwa and his two daughters.
Three days after his death, his father also passed on at his home after suffering heartbreak as he was very close to Menzi.
Amabutho chanted around the hall and sang praises while surrounding the coffins.
