Taxi owner in Limpopo has been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder after a shooting near Tzaneen on 20 February.
41-year-old Lucky Ramahola appeared in the Tzaneen magistrates’court on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said it’s alleged that two male victims, aged 21 and 27 were walking home from local liquor store when an unknown suspect driving in a Toyota Quantum fired shots at them.
The 21-year-old was left seriously injured and the 27-year-old was killed instantly. The suspect immediately fled the scene .
Ngoepe said the police and Emergency medical services were called to the scene. When they arrived, the deceased Tinyiko Joas Hongwane was certified dead and the other victim was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Ngoepe said a manhunt was launched and the suspect was ultimately arrested and the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also confiscated. He said the motive behind the incident is still not clear at this stage.
