Three suspects aged between 20 and 33 who allegedly terrorised members of the community in the Vhembe District and mostly targeting the University of Venda and Vhembe TVET college students, have been arrested and linked to more than 40 cases ranging from rape, armed robbery, burglary, business and house robberies.
These suspects who are residents of Phiphidi and Vondo villages in the Thohoyandou Policing area, were arrested during an Intelligence driven joint operation comprising of the Vhembe District Task Team, Thohoyandou Crime Intelligence Unit, Thohoyandou Tactical Response Team (TRT), Vhembe First Responders and Vhembe District Detectives.
The suspects were arrested following a positive tip-off from members of the community about suspects involved in an armed robbery that occurred last month, in the Thohoyandou policing area.
Preliminary Police investigations then linked the suspects to these cases and they are believed to be part of a syndicate that has been terrorising the students from the two institutions at their off-campus residences.
The suspects might still be linked to more other similar cases as profiling is still underway.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba commends the excellent job done by this Team of operational members.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Police investigations are still continu
