The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba hailed the swift reaction by the Police in Malamulele outside Giyani under the Vhembe District for arresting a 63- year old suspect in connection with the murder of his 55 year old wife on Saturday, 06 February 2021 at Mbhalati village. The suspect was arrested last night, on 09 February 2021 at about 19.00 in his hideout in an unoccupied house at Tshimbupve village in the Vuwani Policing area outside Thohoyandou.
His arrest follows an incident where on this fateful day, a quarrel allegedly ensued between the suspect and his second wife, Tsakani Joyce Maswanganyi at about 19h30. The suspect then produced his licensed firearm and shot the deceased several times.
The police were summoned and on arrival, the suspect had already fled from the scene. The firearm that was allegedly used in the murder, was found and confiscated.
The Preliminary police investigations revealed that the motive for the incident may be related to domestic violence.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, on 11 February 2021.
