The Safer Festive Season operations which will be up and running until the end of January 2021, are already attaining positive and meaningful results across the province, after 1974 suspects aged between 18 and 46 were arrested during the joint operations conducted since on the 16 November until today, 22 November 2020, for crimes such as murder, attempted murder, business and house robberies, rapes and sexual assault, burglaries, assaults, possession of unlicensed firearms, etc.
The operations comprising members derived from various Police Units such as Crime Prevention, K9, Crime Intelligence, Border Policing, Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP), the Detectives Endangered Species Unit and the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit(VCIU), was characterised by the intensive roadblocks and patrols, tracing of wanted suspects, stop and searches, visible policing at shopping centers, and operations and patrols at all the border posts and tourist destinations, etc.
Fourteen (14) illegal firearms, two (02) rifles and ammunition were recovered. Other items that were confiscated include: 07 cars, 12 cell phones, cash amount of money,
290080 sticks of illicit cigarettes, 51 dangerous weapons, 12008gr of dagga,17 dagga plants, 2gr of nyaope, 76 knives and 3195966ml of liquor. Moreover, 2047 fines were issued for contravention of the road Traffic Act.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba acknowledges the hard work done by the operational members for hitting hard on criminals across the province. All the arrested suspects will appear before their respective magistrate courts soon.
