Solomon Maboku Maponya (43) appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on the 10 November 2020 for alleged fraud.
It is alleged that between 2016 and 2018, Maponya, an independent attorney, represented five victims on their road accident claims for compensation from RAF.
The victims alleged that they were baffled by the pay-out delay, until they enquired from RAF officials during their roadshow in Tzaneen area. They discovered that their claims were processed and paid long ago.
The case of fraud was opened and referred to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further probe.
Maponya was arrested on Tuesday after he handed himself to the police.
His bail was fixed at R10 000-00 and the case was postponed to 10 December 2020.
