The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the continuous acts of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide across the Province. This follows an incident where a 22-year-old woman, Naume Sodi was allegedly stabbed to death with a sharp object by her partner this morning, on 05 November 2020 at Ga-Maroga Village, in the Driekop policing area outside Burgersfort under the Sekhukhune District.
It is alleged that the neighbours were alarmed by the deceased’s frantic screams coming out from the couple’s shack and they immediately went there to investigate. Upon arrival, the boyfriend came out running. They then entered the shack and were shocked to find the deceased in a pool of blood with an open wound on her body.
The Police were notified, responded immediately, commenced with the investigations and manhunt ensued to track down the suspect.
The 31 year old suspect was later arrested along the R37 road after he was hit by a vehicle while trying to evade arrest.
He is presently admitted in hospital for medical treatment under Police guard.
A case of murder has been opened and the motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
“Innocent lives cannot continue to be lost in the hands of ruthless people and as the society, we need to stand together and support the Police against the killing of women and children in our province.
” Those who are experiencing domestic related challenges, are advised to approach the readily available facilities in their area rather than resorting to violence”, concluded General Ledwaba.
The suspect will appear before the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of murder as soon as he recover from the hospital .
