The Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale visited the families of victims including the family of the victim who’s property was burnt and he addressed them concerning the crime committed by the community in Giyani.
The visit come after the mob justice incidents that took place at Gandlanani village on Sunday, 18 October 2020, after community consulted a Sangoma about the missing Mahlori Maluleka in the village before they went on rampage. The body of a missing man was later found in the mountains where it’s alleged that the deceased hanged himself.
The 23 suspects were arrested and appeared in court for charges of Murder, Arson, Malicious damage to property and Public violence. Three other suspects were released after the available evidence could not link them to the crimes committed. The Sangoma was taken in for questioning and thereafter released.
All 20 suspects were denied bail and their cases were postponed to 27 October 2020 for further police investigations.
