Residents of Mtititi Town/Muhunguti village outside Malamulele have accused the Collins Chabane Municipality of ignoring its needs by deciding to construct a bridge in the area without consulting the community.
The Interim Committee representing the community says they were surprised by the construction of the bridge allegedly worth R5 million, while the Integrated Development Programme prioritises the provision of water in the area.
Committee spokesperson Given Magoveni says is also alleging that friends and relatives of the local councillor have benefited from the project through jobs and adds that this has further angered the community.
Municipal spokesperson Collins Sithole says he will comment on the matter on Monday next week, Magoveni says they also do not understand why the bridge is being constructed on a road that is not being frequently used by the residents.
